Wood packaging is currently the most widely used packaging materials in international trade, because wood packaging mostly uses wood as raw material, it is an important carrier and transmission medium of forest pests in international trade.

In order to ensure that the wooden packaging of outbound goods in China meets the international quarantine requirements, the Measures for the Administration of Quarantine Treatment of Wooden Packaging of Outbound Goods stipulates that the wooden packaging of outbound goods shall be treated in accordance with the quarantine and pest control methods listed in the Methods for the Treatment of Wooden Packaging of Outbound Goods, and special marks shall be added in accordance with the requirements of the Requirements for the Identification of Wooden Packaging of Outbound Goods.

What is wood packaging?

Wooden packaging refers to wooden materials used for carrying, packaging, bedding, supporting and reinforcing goods, such as wooden crates, wooden crates, wooden pallets, wooden frames, wooden barrels, wooden shafts, wooden wedges, cushions, sleepers, lining wood, etc.

The following six types of wood packaging do not require export quarantine supervision:

(I) wooden packaging made entirely of thin wood (thickness 6mm or less).

(II) completely by gluing, heating, pressure and other methods of production of plywood, particleboard, fiberboard and other production of wood packaging.

(III) casks used to hold bulk wine or spirits that are heat treated during the making process.

(IV) a gift box for packaging wine, cigars or other goods. After processing or other treatment to remove harmful organisms in its production process.

(V) sawdust, wood shavings, silk.

(VI) wooden fittings permanently attached to transport vehicles and containers.

Why do you want to do with wood packaging?

Outbound wood packaging is closely related to outbound goods. If wood packaging that does not meet the requirements is used, if it is found in the pre-export inspection, the export may be blocked due to replacement of packaging, decontamination treatment, etc., and even affect the shipment.

If the wooden packaging fails to pass the quarantine inspection in the country of destination, according to the entry quarantine requirements formulated by relevant countries in accordance with international standards, measures such as disinfestation, destruction and refusal of entry will be taken at the port of entry for wooden packaging without IPPC marks, incorrect IPPC marks, or detection of harmful organisms.

How to select qualified wood packaging?

Whether with bark

Wood packaging must be made of bark removed wood. The allowable amount of bark residue on wood packaging should meet the following requirements: the width is less than 3 ㎝, or the total area is less than 50 ㎝. If methyl bromide is used to fumigate wood packaging, the bark should be removed before treatment.

Whether there is IPPC logo

According to the "the People's Republic of China Entry and Exit Animal and Plant Quarantine Law" and its implementing regulations, referring to the provisions of the International Plant Quarantine Measures Standard No. 15 "Guidelines for the Management of Wood Packaging Materials in International Trade", the export of wood packaging must be effectively quarantined and removed, and the IPPC special mark specified by the International Plant Protection Convention Organization shall be applied. The IPPC mark on the wooden packaging must be rectangular or square, and the mark must be applied in a position that is easy to see when the wooden packaging is used, preferably on at least two opposite sides of the wooden packaging unit. The logo must be legible, permanent and immovable, and the style of the logo must conform to the standard.

The application unit of the wooden packaging mark of the exit goods must be examined by the customs and meet the requirements of the Measures for the Administration of the Quarantine Treatment of the Wood Packaging of the Exit Goods. Exporters should purchase wood packaging from enterprises that have obtained the qualification of labeling and application, and require a certificate of compliance with the treatment of wood packaging. The General Administration of Customs regularly updates the list of enterprises applying wood packaging labels for outbound goods and publishes it on the website of the General Administration of Customs.
